October 2011

It is with great sadness we have received the news of passing away of Revered Swami Prameyanandaji Maharaj [Vice-President ,RKM] on 20th. October, 2011. We will always remember Revered Swamiji’s happy demeanor, kind nature and especially the inspiring talk he gave at the Vedanta Society of Calgary, during his visit in 2006. We have been very fortunate to have received his blessings at the inaugural of the Vedanta Center on October 30th, 2010 [the letter is enclosed].  His absence will be felt by many of us who met him in Calgary.

Quotations from the book entitled “KALI  THE  MOTHER” by Sister Nivedita

“And so it comes that the Great God of the Hindu imagination is a beggar…. He accepts that which all else reject… He drank the Poisson of things, and made His throat blue for ever… /Perfect renunciation, perfect withdrawnness, perfect absorption in eternity,… As the Purush,or Soul, He is Consort and Spouse of Maya, Nature, the fleeting diversity of sense. It is in this relation that we find Him beneath the feet of Kali….. As for Kali, She, it is claimed, was one of His powers…”

[Irish born Margaret E.Noble{1867-1911} became a disciple of Swami Vivekananda who gave her name “Nivedita”, meaning one who is dedicated to God. She came to Calcutta in 1898 and in the auspicious day of Kali Puja, November 13, she started a girl’s school at Calcutta, with the blessings of Holy Mother Shri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and other  members of the Ramakrishna Order. She wrote a series of books and was a great patronage of Indian Art and research in Science. Sister Nivedita  helped to raise funds for the research laboratory  of a well known Physicist Professor Jagadish Chandra Bose, D.Sc [London], of the Presidency College, Calcutta. In 1917, the “Bose Institute” was opened and at the entrance there is a statue of Sister Nivedita, holding the prayer beads and a lamp in her hand.]
